A Culinary Regatta: Triumph at the Yacht Club Potjiekos Competition
The sun cast a wintry golden hue on a sea of eager faces gathered for the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club’s annual potjiekos competition.
As the competition commenced, the air filled with the tantalizing aroma of spices and simmering stews. Each team concocted their own version of the traditional South African dish, carefully layering flavours and adjusting temperatures to perfection.
Among the competitors were Vice Commodore Black and Commodore Newton, both seasoned sailors, in fierce culinary competition with each other.
As the judges made their rounds, sampling each creation, tension mounted among the competitors. With bated breath, the judges took their first spoonful of potjiekos. Their eyes widened in delight as they savoured the rich medley of flavours. With nods of approval, they moved on to the next dish.
The hours passed quickly, with maestro Jaco Oosthuizen accompanying the chopping, simmering, perfecting. Amidst raucous laughter, the winners were announced. Emerging victorious was “Team Vikings”, a motley assortment of friends whose oxtail pot smashed the competition!
“Team Prosperitas” from Property.Co.Za secured second place, demonstrating prowess in both cooking and property sales. “Team Pike’s (chicken) Pot” earned a well-deserved third place.
As the winners basked in the glow of their victory, Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club celebrated the overall success of the event – a testament to the power of teamwork, camaraderie and a shared love for the sea.
