Nestled within Gordon’s Bay Old Harbour, the Club offers a walk-on marina accommodating up to 119 vessels, with a maximum length of 42 ft (12.8m). Navigating the harbor entrance, marked by a sandbar, is facilitated by a designated channel, advisable for vessels with a draft of 1.8m or more to avoid three hours either side of low tide. GBYC's premises include a fully equipped Clubhouse featuring a bar and restaurant, affectionately known as the Galley, providing a breathtaking backdrop for sunset enthusiasts overlooking False Bay.
Dedicated to fostering camaraderie among boating enthusiasts, GBYC educates the community on sea-based recreational activities, predominantly focusing on yachting. The Club is home to the Sailing Academy GB and regularly hosts training programs such as skipper courses in collaboration with other marine education bodies.
Members of GBYC benefit from an extensive keelboat racing program, alongside opportunities for day and overnight cruises, while the Club warmly welcomes visiting yachts from both South Africa and abroad.
Affiliated with South African Sailing (SAS) and the Ocean Sailing Association of Southern Africa (OSASA), GBYC also maintains reciprocity agreements with several domestic and international yacht clubs.
Situated within the Gordon’s Bay Old Harbour precinct, GBYC shares space with various organizations, including the South African Navy and the local commercial fishing community. Essential facilities such as the slipway, hauling equipment, and crane are managed by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE), represented by the Harbour Master.
GBYC actively participates in government initiatives like Operation Phakisa, aligning with its focus on the Ocean’s Economy. Through collaborative efforts with local stakeholders, the Club identifies opportunities for economic development within the maritime community, contributing to the Gordon’s Bay Harbour User’s Committee (HUC), dedicated to enhancing harbor amenities for the broader community's benefit.
