Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club (GBYC) marked the start of the 2022 sailing season with its annual Opening Cruise on Saturday the 12th of February.
A total of 25 vessels supported the event including two vessels from the National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Station 9 (Gordon’s Bay). The south-westerly winds presented ideal conditions for sailing.
As per tradition, the fleet passed the GBYC commodore Jana Loubser, who was aboard the anchored catamaran, Synergy, and gave three cheers. Afterwards, passing vessels “baptised” the first-time commodore with buckets of water and water pistols.
The day’s sailing was followed by a rock n roll and disco-themed party at the GBYC clubhouse.
The next event on the GBYC calendar was a dinghy sailing weekend at Theewater Sports club on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 February, which was held in conjunction with the Sailing Academy GB. The Yachts were back in action this passed weekend (Sunday 27 February) for the All Comers Series with ideal sailing conditions and a record number of entries for the first leg of the series.
