Blankets, Bears & Beanies

With winter approaching, we’ll be working with Strand Rotary and Port & Starboard Hobby Shop to create a little warmth – whether it’s helping people sleep a little better at night with a nice warm blanket, giving some comfort with a little bear to hold onto or wrapping them up for the day in a bright and cheerful beanie.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

These are the options:

  1. Get the knitting needles or crochet hooks out and start making goods
  2. Donate cash, wool, needles and/or crochet hooks
  3. Help finish off the bits (such as sewing squares together etc), and/or
  4. Spread the word!

PATTERNS

Select any of the following or make your own favourite knitting or crochet pattern:

  • Knitted bear
  • Crochet bear
  • Knitted Beanie
  • Crochet Beanie
  • Blankets can be any size – ranging from babies’ comforters to full-sizes adult blankets or you can knit or crochet squares
  • If you’re not keen on the finishing of any of the products, you can hand in the basic bits and we’ll arrange for someone to finish them off.

AND THERE’S MORE…

For every ball of double knit Charity wool you purchase from Port and Starboard Hobby Shop in Gordon’s Bay, they will donate a ball to the cause. You can choose to use it yourself to make goods for us or we’ll pass it on to other knitters or crochet volunteers at local Retirement Villages.

Send a pic of your P&S slip to Rotary and we’ll carry out your instruction (to give you the wool or pay it forward):

And even if you don’t participate in the Blankets, Bears & Beanies initiative, Port & Starboard’s pricing is 30% cheaper than anywhere else in the Helderberg – even well-known chain stores!! Please support them – or at least pop in and see what they have in stock!

Depending on the number of items receive, goods will be split between various organisations – starting with the local SAPS Victim Support Unit and various Early Childhood Development projects in the Helderberg.

Here’s a flyer you can share with friends and family!

Let’s work together to make winter a little easier for those less fortunate than ourselves!
